Regional Trail Network Celebrates 100th Mile

For Indiana newcomer Christy Grannan, the Regional Trail Network has been a welcome feature to life in and around Fort Wayne. The multi-use Network is expanding and recently paved its 100th mile, with an additional seven miles to be added by the end of 2017.

A milestone celebration is set to take place in Fort Wayne on Monday, Nov. 13 with the official marking of the 100th mile of the regional trail network.

Fort Wayne and area residents are welcome to attend the event, hosted by the City of Fort Wayne, Allen County and Fort Wayne Trails Inc. Attendees can tag and post past and present trail memories and images on social media using #fwtrails100 or on the City of Fort Wayne and Fort Wayne Trails Facebook pages.

Trail advocates in Northeast Indiana want to create the largest trail system in the state. The proposed trail was recently named the Poka-bache Connector. The first part of the name, Poka, comes from Pokagon State Park in Angola, which is where the trail will begin.

Last week, the City of Fort Wayne cut the ribbon on construction of a new segment of the Pufferbelly Trail on the city’s north side.

The expansion is the latest in what’s becoming an increasingly connected trail system across four counties in Northeast Indiana.
