There were two deaths due to COVID-19 in northeast Indiana since Tuesday, none reported on Friday.

According to the Indiana Department of Health and local health department data, there were 111 new cases reported in the same time frame.

LaGrange and Steuben counties are in the “yellow” for community spread of the virus, as determined by the state’s two-pronged measurement that accounts for 7-day positivity rate and cases per 100,000 residents. Yellow is the second-best category.

The rest of northeast Indiana is now in the “blue”, the state’s best category.

LaGrange County finally saw its percentage of those vaccinated and over the age of 13 creep up above 22 percent.

The area’s 7-day positivity rate finishes up the week at 2.6 percent, having seen the lowest totals for average positivity rates since the beginning of the pandemic.

Steuben County’s 7-day positivity rate, however, is up to 7 percent, its highest since late May. It has been on a slight march upward since the beginning of June, according to state data.
