WBOI's Julia Meek Recognized With Lifetime Achievement Award

Daniel Church

Arts United awarded WBOI’s own arts and culture reporter Julia Meek a Lifetime Achievement Award this week, recognizing her decades of work in Fort Wayne’s art scene.

She’s been involved in art since the 1960s and picked up an early passion for volunteering.

Julia has been a part of local public radio since 1981, and her voice can be heard frequently on WBOI’s news programming with her arts and culture features. Julia also hosts syndicated radio shows “Folktales” and “Meet the Music,” connecting all who hear her to the works of musicians here and abroad.

In reaction to the award, Julia said she is always surprised when the spotlight turns her way.

“The way I see it, I can do what I do well, because there's so much wonderment here to inspire and encourage us. I'm simply not a materialistic person, but my community connections are my 'wealth,' and I feel rich beyond words.

Community Volunteer Lynne Gilmore was also awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award

Other award winners include:

  • Outstanding Advocate Alexandra Hall
  • Emerging Leader Adrian Curry
  • Margaret Ann Keegan Award for Arts Education Gloria Minnich
  • Emerging Artist Violetta Todorova
  • Outstanding Volunteer Susan Johnson
