Electric Works isn’t entirely a done deal, but on Tuesday the redevelopment project for the old General Electric plant gained its first significant lease commitment.
Parkview Health and RTM Ventures are finalizing the plans for a 10-year lease that would place a healthcare clinic in the 1.2-million square foot project.
The clinic would serve an area of Fort wayne that is medically underserved, according to press release from the developers.
The large healthcare system also expressed interest in partnering with RTM and higher education institutions to develop a research and innovation space, as well as the health food hall/public market part of the project.
The 39-acre Electric Works project encompasses 18 historic buildings on the city’s near south side. It came closer to fruition in August with the completion of an economic development agreement with the City of Fort Wayne.
City Council and other officials are still ironing out the details of further public and private funding for the more-than $200 million project.
