Mailers Sent With New Garbage Pickup Details

Fort Wayne Public Works

There’s less than two weeks until routes for Fort Wayne garbage and recycling collection are changed, and the city wants to make sure residents are ready.

The Public Works department is sending mailers out to all residents today that have specific information about trash and recycling pickup. The mailers will be color coded for each residential address and specify the new pick-up day and week.

The mailers are part of a broad effort to improve collection services -- and public trust -- of the city’s solid waste management contractor, Red River.

Earlier this month, Mayor Tom Henry’s Working Group on Garbage and Recycling announced the change to routes, noting that 47 percent of Fort Wayne users would be affected in some form.

The change comes after ten months of missed garbage and recycling pick-ups around the city, which caused City Council to begin exploring holding Red River in breach of its contract back in August.

Residents can also visit MyNewTrashDay.com to learn more about the status of their garbage and recycling route. The new routes go into effect Monday, November 5.
