Banks Wins 3rd District Re-Election

Zach Bernard/WBOI News

Voters in Indiana’s 3rd District re-elected Republican representative Jim Banks for a second term in the House, defeating Democratic challenger Courtney Tritch.

The 3rd District was one of the first national races to be called by the Associated Press, slightly more than an hour after polls closed in the Hoosier State. After allowing another hour for more precincts to report, Tritch announced her concession.

The Banks and Tritch campaigns were combative at times during this election, but Banks took a conciliatory tone Tuesday night. He praised Tritch’s “passion for what she believes in,” even where they disagree.

“It says a lot when you have strong candidates from both parties match-up in an election like this one," he said. "It serves the voters well, and I appreciate her hard-fought campaign.”

Banks says he learned how “local” even congressional politics can be in his first term, and emphasized his continued efforts to support Hoosier veterans and President Trump’s agenda.
