The City of Fort Wayne is celebrating $30 million of infrastructure improvements throughout the city and its neighborhoods in 2018.
More than 500 street, sidewalk and curb projects were completed in 190 of the city’s neighborhoods. Repairs were made on Calhoun Street, Jefferson Boulevard, and North Anthony Boulevard among other major city roads. Six miles of sidewalk was also added to St. Joe Center, Bluffton, Winchester and Old Decatur Roads.
Mayor Tom Henry says the city’s focus on neighborhoods over the last five years has improved the city’s overall quality of life.
“That’s the whole idea, is to try to catch up on a lot of those areas that unfortunately had been in the queue for quite some time, and now we’re in the process of catching up those projects,” Henry said.
This year’s numbers add to a total of $130 million in local infrastructure investment since 2014, resulting in nearly 2,000 completed projects around the city through that time.
In 2019, the city is planning improvements along State Boulevard to Maplecrest Road, as well as work in the Woodhurst and Hillsboro neighborhoods. The full list of projects will be revealed in the spring.
