Following years of planning, legislation and construction, the Promenade Park at Fort Wayne’s riverfront finally celebrated its grand opening over the weekend.
Festivities began Friday evening, and ran all throughout the weekend. Residents were able to enjoy local music and comedy performances at the Sweetwater Bandshell, boat and recreation events on the St. Marys River, and a variety of nature-themed activities.
Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation director Steve McDaniel says everyone behind the project is hopeful the community embraces the park as a social space.
“We spent a lot of time trying to make sure that we had all those details of who would be using the park and how they would be interacting with the park, and we hope we hit the mark with that,” McDaniel said.
With weekend festivities in the rearview, a reminder that the park is now open for all, with numerous events planned for the remainder of the year.
