It's A Giraffe! Zoo Welcomes New Baby

The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo announced the birth of a baby giraffe, born Sept. 4.

The female baby giraffe was born to Faye. Within 30 minutes after birth, the baby was standing on her own, according to a press release.

She is six-feet tall and weighs 134 pounds. She and her mother will remain off the exhibit for a few weeks while they recover and get to know the rest of the herd.

The little one doesn’t yet have a name. The public can help name the newest member of the giraffe herd on the Zoo’s Facebook page.

The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo has a herd of five females and two males. The baby is Faye’s second calf.
