Walmart is addressing the increase of e-commerce demands with plans for a new facility just outside of Indianapolis. The new e-commerce fulfillment center will be the company’s largest in the country.

Hancock County will be home to the new 2.2 million square foot location bringing up to 1,000 new jobs by 2025, according to the company.

Walmart senior vice president of fulfillment operations Steve Miller said in a statement the location will “help meet increasing online shopping demands and ultimately serve our customers.”

This announcement comes as the retailer has expanded in the e-commerce market including becoming a third-party fulfillment service for vendors and businesses on Walmart’s Marketplace.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered up to $6 million total in tax incentives to Walmart for job creation and capital investment in the state.

Construction is set to begin this month on the $600 million project with plans for the facility to start being used in 2022.
