Middle Waves Music Festival announces 2022 lineup

After a three-year hiatus, the Middle Waves Music Festival in Fort Wayne will return in June.

Young the Giant and Big Boi will headline the festival, with several other national names and nearly a dozen local artists.

This year's festival will take place June 17 and 18 at the Foellinger Theater.

Festival chair Katy Silliman says renovations to the venue over the last few years offers the festival plenty of versatility.

"One, because you won’t have to cross a major street and sneak a beer across the street to see the second stage," Silliman says. "It will be a much more intimate experience, which we’re really excited about. And we have a decent backup plan for rain."

Middle Waves debuted in 2016, with headliners Best Coast and Flaming Lips across two nights at Headwaters Park.

Following a decline in attendance in following years, the festival took a year off in 2019 with plans to regroup in 2020.

The 2020 festival was going to feature headliners Cold War Kids and Big Boi, serving as a return of the festival and a grand opening event for Electric Works. However, the COVID-19 pandemic threw cold water that weekend as well.

More local and national acts are expected to be added to the lineup in the coming weeks.
