Red River garbage delays persist, city apologizes.

Fort Wayne’s new trash service isn’t set to begin until July 1, and the delays in trash pickup are likely to continue.

According to a release from city officials Tuesday, garbage collection is continuing to lag behind as the embattled Red River Waste Solutions struggle to maintain staffing levels amid rising garbage load sizes.

The City of Fort Wayne Solid Waste Department is “doing its best to assist”, and finishing trash collection of last week’s Thursday and Friday routes on Tuesday.

Recycling is running a full cycle behind. Those who were scheduled for recycling collection last week will likely not be picked up until their next scheduled pick up next week, according to the release.

The newly-selected service provider GFL Environmental USA takes over solid waste collection on July 1.
