WBOI Presents: The Mount Vernon Assembly and Constitutional Amendments

A group of state legislators from around the United States met June 12th and 13th at the Indiana Statehouse to discuss an idea that's never been tested: a convention of the states aimed at amending the U.S. Constitution.

Indiana Senate President Pro-Tem David Long has been a key organizer of the group, called The Mount Vernon Assembly. While Long has previously said creating a successful "Article V convention" would be a long shot, he also says states need to fight back against federal overreach, and such a convention is one way to do so.

On this edition of WBOI Presents, our guests discuss the ideas behind the Article V convention, what such a meeting of the states might look like, and the uncertainty inherent in the process.

Andrew Downs from the Mike Downs Center for Indiana Politics at IPFW moderates the discussion. He's joined by political science professor Mike Wolf and history professor Jeff Malanson, both from IPFW.
