This week, the Indiana Arts Commission announced IPFW English professor George Kalamaras would become the new Indiana State Poet Laureate.

WBOI's Julia Meek recently spoke to Kalamaras about his work, the state of the poetry, and why the art of verse can be so intimidating. If you haven't heard it, it's a great conversation, and can be found here.

While he was at the Madge Rothschild Studios, we asked him to read a couple of his own works, which you can find below.

"Katya Whitcomb"

"Kingdom of Throat-Stuck Luck"

"Katya Whitcomb" appears in The Mining Camps of the Mouth, 2012, New Michigan Press. "Kingdom of Throat-Stuck Luck" appears in Kingdom of Throat-Stuck Luck, 2012, Elixir Press.

All works written and read by George Kalamaras.
