The Fort Wayne Museum of Art is ending this year on a doubly high note, saluting an important chapter of local history with its Fort Wayne Art School exhibit, and welcoming a new and major permanent glass sculpture acquisition.
Representing voices from the city's roots of art education in the late 19th century through the 1970's when the Art School moved from its home in the West Central neighborhood to its present location at Purdue Fort Wayne, museum goers can track the legacy of this enthusiastic group of teachers and students that continues to impact Fort Wayne's cultural skyline.
And representing the latest in artistic adventure, Seattle-based glass sculptor, Martin Blank and his team installed "Repose in Amber" in the museum just after Thanksgiving, which is now the largest and most dramatic work in the museum's growing collection of glass art.
Earlier this week, WBOI's Julia Meek managed to coax its president, Charles Shepard, away from all the activitiy and into our studios to share his thoughts on these projects, the growing popularity of art glass of all forms, and the some of the museum's projects for the coming year.
