Indiana’s 10th graders passed their final state assessment at about the same rate as last year, according to ISTEP scores the state made available this week.Indiana’s third through eighth graders transitioned to the new statewide test, ILEARN last spring. ILEARN results prompted concerns about school accountability after they revealed a significant drop in achievement.

But high schoolers will continue taking the ISTEP+ as their final school assessment until it’s replaced by a nationally recognized college entrance exam like the SAT or ACTin 2022.

About one third of 10th graders passed both math and English Language Arts sections of the ISTEP+ – a passing rate almost identical to last year’s. High school sophomores did show a slight improvement in English Language Arts with a 62 percent passing rate, a 3 percent improvement.
