Fort Wayne City Council Cancelled Tuesday

Zach Bernard/WBOI News

A Fort Wayne City Council meeting was cancelled this week, as a controversial measure looms ahead of council members for a vote.

The proposal centers on a rezoning petition allowing for construction of a three-building shopping center across six-and-a-half acres of residential land right off of Coventry Lane.

After postponing the measure twice, Fort Wayne’s Plan Commission voted unanimously against it following objections from neighbors of the property.

Still, the final say on whether to greenlight the measure lies with Fort Wayne’s City Council, and it’s unclear whether they will follow the commission’s unanimous vote, or overturn it and allow the development to proceed.

The vote is scheduled to take place during next week’s City Council meeting, which is set for Tuesday, May 9 at 5:30 pm.
