Araceli Gomez-Aldana

Indiana University- Purdue University Fort Wayne announced they will partner with SME Inc. to implement a new Purdue University Fort Wayne brand. The university also revealed their new academic logo in a news conference.

After its split from Indiana University last spring, the school announced it would rebrand itself as Purdue University Fort Wayne. The new logo features Purdue University’s emblem, standing above the words “Fort Wayne.” The university’s mascot will remain the mastodon.

An overhaul of all marketing material will need be developed. Chancellor Ron Elsenbaumer said Thursday’s logo reveal is the first step, and they are already beginning to use the logo in advertising material.

“And then slowly after we will start incorporating the logo so that it’s ready to go after July 1st,” added Elsenbaumer.

After reviewing many prospect agencies 25 university stakeholders selected SME Inc. to implement its new brand and marketing materials.

Director of Brand Strategy and Development, Conor O’Flaherty says there is a lot of work to be done.

“Our job is not to tell the institution who it is, our job is to work with the institution to help refine who they are,” said O’Flaherty.

Chancellor Elsenbaumer did not disclose the cost for the rebranding but did say the amount has already been budgeted for.

The new logo and branding of the university will take full effect on July 1st.
