Allen County Job Growth Steady Through 2018

2018 was a big year for job growth in Allen County, according to numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Through October, Allen County’s unemployment rate has held steadily at 3.3 percent since this time last year, with few fluctuations in-between. That’s a few points below the state and national unemployment rates, hovering at 3.6 percent.

Part of this can be attributed to significant gains in job growth locally. 33 businesses either expanded in or relocated to Allen County in 2018, investing $337 million into the local economy and creating 2,445 jobs -- that’s a new record dating back to 2001, according to numbers provided by Greater Fort Wayne, Inc.

Major businesses committing investments to Fort Wayne and Allen County include Sweetwater’s $76 million expansion -- which CEO Chuck Surack says will create 1,009 jobs at the company -- and ErlingKlinger’s new $23 million automotive plant.

Stats for November and December have yet to be published.
