City Council Approves Funding For Water Main Repair

Fort Wayne City Utilities will have another pipe repair project on its hands for 2019, though not on the scale of other recent underground projects.

Crestwood Colony is located on the corner of St. Joe Center Road and North Clinton Street, and suffers from an aging water main. City Utilities requested nearly $750,000 from City Council Tuesday night to repair the infrastructure. The money would come from the department’s sewer bond.

Mike Kiester is a manager with City Utilities. He says the problem has gone on too long.

“They are collapsed, and if they further collapse they could create total blockages, which could result in backups and overflows into our system.”

Kiester projects “substantial completion” by June, and being 100% finished by July. Council approved the measure unanimously.
