New Haven To Use Fort Wayne Animal Care And Control

Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control will expand its services to the City of New Haven, officials announced Thursday.

The two entities entered into an interlocal agreement to allow Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control officers to uphold New Haven’s city animal ordinances, as well as deal with stray dogs, bite investigations and other issues.

New Haven does not have an animal shelter, or the ability to house animals. The city had previously contracted with Allen County Animal Control to pick up strays and bring them to Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control’s shelter. That number was about 300 animals last year, according to officials.

Now those calls will be handled directly by FWACC staff and officers.

The City of New Haven will pay $48,578 in 2020 to FWACC for the service, and a prorated amount for the remainder of 2019.
