Steuben County Deals With Coronavirus Outbreak Likely Tied To Poultry Plant

Steuben County has an outbreak of COVID-19, with 17 new positive cases reported by the Steuben County Health Department on Monday.

 

That brings the county’s total to 43, and all of the new cases are individuals under the age of 60, according to a letter from the health department.

 

Some of the new cases are believed to have originated at Miller’s Amish Country Poultry processing plant in Orland, a small town in the northwest corner of Steuben County.

 

According to company officials, the plant received seven positive test results early last week, and tested a number of other employees late last week. The plant was closed on Monday and scheduled to resume operations with the first shift on Tuesday.

 

In Allen County, an additional 45 positive tests were reported for a total of 657 cases. Fifty-five Allen County residents have died.

 

A handful of other northeast Indiana counties reported additional positive COVID-19 tests.
