Persistent temperatures above 90 degrees across northeast Indiana resulted in several actions from the City of Fort Wayne on Monday.
The lobby of the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory,1100 S Calhoun St., in downtown Fort Wayne will serve as a cooling station now through Friday, from noon to 5 pm each day. In the interest of social distancing, the lobby will be limited to five visitors at a time; visitors are asked to wear a mask.
And effective this morning/early Tuesday, daily garbage and recycling collection will begin an hour earlier, at 5 am instead of the usual 6 am. This is in effect until further notice, and residents are asked to place garbage cans out the night before pickup.
Heat indices are expected to stay in the mid- to upper 90s throughout the rest of the week, and will be near 100 degrees on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
