Only 15 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in northeast Indiana on Monday, continuing the decline in new cases of the coronavirus since mid-May. The area’s 7-day positivity rate is down to 2.1 percent.

However, while the number of cases continues to decrease, the number of vaccines among the eligible population continues to decrease as well. Indiana’s overall vaccination rate stands at 47.2 percent.

The state’s daily vaccination totals have steadily declined since June 7, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

Fifty-three percent of the state’s women have been fully vaccinated, while only about 46 percent of men.

Adult Hoosiers between the ages of 25 to 29 remain the lowest cohort vaccinated, at 29 percent. Only 12 percent of children between the ages of 12 to 15 have been fully vaccinated, but they were not eligible for the vaccine until mid-May.

All of northeast Indiana remains in the state’s safest category for community spread, or “blue” category, based on cases per 100,000 residents and 7-day positivity rates.
