COVID-19: Northeast Indiana numbers remain low, though slight uptick measured

WBOI

More than two years into COVID-19, Allen County’s numbers have fallen to some of the lowest points in the pandemic.

However the past week has seen a slight uptick in cases, both in Allen County and elsewhere in northeast Indiana.

Allen County is now at roughly four cases per every 10,000 residents, according to the Indiana Department of Health. Steuben County is at about five cases per every 10,000 residents. These numbers include reinfections, and represent the highest rates in Northeast Indiana

One death was reported in Allen County in the past week, bringing the total number of deaths due to the virus in the county to 1,150, according to the Allen County Department of Health.

The 7-day average for positive COVID tests within northeastern Indiana is around 40, up five cases from the week before, according to state data.

These numbers only include tests reported to public health officials and do not necessarily include all positive tests in the counties.

The number of COVID hospitalizations remains extremely low, and only eight COVID patients remain on ventilators throughout the state.
