Fort Wayne Newspapers to buy KPC Media

Fort Wayne Newspapers is set to purchase the publications of KPC Media, including The News Sun and Fort Wayne Business Weekly, according to media reports.

Fort Wayne Newspapers is a partnership between The News Publishing Company owned by The Ogden Newspapers of Wheeling, West Virginia, and the locally owned Journal Gazette Corporation

Ogden Newspapers publishes Fort Wayne Magazine, operates fortwayne.com, and handles business elements such as human resources and advertising for The Journal Gazette.

The Journal Gazette remains family-owned and operates independently of Fort Wayne Newspapers.

Ogden officials said Wednesday they will continue to build on the legacy of the Witwer family, which owned and operated KPC Media for 50 years.

In 2006, Ogden Newspapers bought the controlling interest in Fort Wayne Newspapers from McClatchy, which included the then-daily Pulitzer Prize-winning News-Sentinel.

In 2017, the 100-year-old News-Sentinel ceased daily publication. It shuttered completely in 2020.

Included in the acquisition of KPC Media are newspapers in six Northeast Indiana counties, niche magazines, phone books and other publications.

Rebecca manages the news at WBOI. She joined the staff in December 2017, and brought with her nearly two decades of experience in print journalism, including 15 years as an award-winning reporter for the Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne.
