Brew pub to be built along the north riverfront

The City of Fort Wayne announced a major investment in a long-underutilized piece of land north of the riverfront.

According to a press release, a Chicago-based brewery announced plans to build a two-story 16,000-square foot brewery and restaurant at the site.

The $6 million project by More Brewing would be the first constructed at the North River site since the city’s Redevelopment Commission acquired the property in 2017.

After serving as a rail yard and other industries for more than a century, the land near the intersection of 4th and Calhoun streets has not been used since roughly 2006.

The new development comes after the opening of Promenade Park in 2019. That was Phase I of Fort Wayne’s riverfront public space development.

According to city officials, the next phase of construction, primarily along the north bank of the St. Marys river is scheduled to begin this year, and is slated for completion in 2024.

The brewery plans to open at that time, according to the release.
