The Fort Wayne Community Schools Board voted to support the REPAIR 2020 program earning on a spot on next May’s ballot during its meeting Monday night.

The proposal seeks a $130 million bond program making improvements at 33 school buildings. Blackhawk and Miami middle schools along with Wayne High School would see substantial improvements, including updating heating, ventilation and air conditioning, energy-efficient lighting and more.

District-wide work will include security improvements, window replacements and roof replacements, while allowing long-term projects funded on ballots in 2012 and 2016 to finally be completed.

Seven residents spoke in favor of the referendum with no opposition Monday night.

Board approval is one of the final steps toward getting the referendum on the May 2020 ballot. Now the district needs 500 community signatures by the end of this year.
