Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry has passed away after a brief battle with cancer.

Helping Local Freelance Musicians, Pyle Style

Fort Wayne pianist and music educator Alicia Pyle is working overtime to help out-of-work musicians raise funds during the Coronavirus restrictions on public gatherings.

As independent contractors, many musicians juggle several small jobs on a regular basis, Pyle maintains, most of which have been put on hold until the bans are lifted.

For a look at the current needs as well as the online operation Pyle has developed, WBOI's Julia Meek connected with her by telephone to discuss the project's scope and Alicia's personal thoughts on lending a hand.

You can find more information on the project and a complete listing of performances at the Fort Wayne Freelance Musician Fundraiser SOS Facebook Event Page.

A Fort Wayne native, Julia is a radio host, graphic artist, and community volunteer, who has contributed to NIPR both on- and off-air for forty years. Besides being WBOI's arts & culture reporter, she currently co-produces and hosts Folktales and Meet the Music.
