Iconic Animator's Pop-Culture Legacy: Remembering Ron Campbell

Though the legendary Australian-born animator, Ron Campbell, died on January 20th of this year, his legacy will live on in the hearts of millions for the dozens of legendary cartoons he introduced to the world during his fifty year career.

Best known for his work on The Beatles television series in the 1960's, as well as the animated feature film, Yellow Submarine, his iconic characters range from Krazy Cat and Popeye to Rugrats, Scooby Doo and Ed, Edd & Eddy.

In honor of the man, his impressive body of work and the impact he has made on the animation industry, here's the conversation WBOI's Julia Meek had with Campbell about those adventure back in July, 2019, as he was headed from his home in Phoenix, Arizona to Fort Wayne as part of a national tour to present a pop-up show of pop art paintings of those beloved personalities at the Rhapsody Art Gallery.

A Fort Wayne native, Julia is a radio host, graphic artist, and community volunteer, who has contributed to NIPR both on- and off-air for forty years. Besides being WBOI's arts & culture reporter, she currently co-produces and hosts Folktales and Meet the Music.
