June 30: Delta Variant Increasing Among COVID Cases

  The Delta variant of COVID-19, while a small portion of the cases in Indiana, is growing in northeast Indiana.

 

On Tuesday, there were 154 cases of the variant found in Indiana, and on Wednesday that number had gone up to 191.

 

The Delta variant has been identified as “highly transmissible” and concerns health officials around the world and in the U.S.

 

One death due to COVID has been reported in Adams County on Wednesday, in addition to one in Noble County on Tuesday.

 

The area’s 7-day positivity rate stands at 2.3 percent, slightly poorer than the state’s at 2.1 percent.

 

There were 35 new cases of the virus reported on Wednesday in northeast Indiana. There are currently 16 individuals in the area hospitalized with COVID.

 

On the vaccination front, 48.4 percent of Hoosiers have been fully vaccinated, or 2.8 million.

 

Allen County has 48 percent of its eligible population fully vaccinated, followed by Huntington County at 46.4 percent. LaGrange County is again stuck, now at 22.8.

 

LaGrange’s 7-day positivity rate has gone up from 2.7 percent on Friday to 3.7 percent on Wednesday.
