Parkview Certifies With MDAnderson Cancer Network

Parkview Health

Parkview Cancer Institute announced ties to MD Anderson Cancer Network Wednesday, becoming one of three Indiana health systems to be certified members of their network.

The certification allows physicians and caregivers at Parkview to tap into the University of Texas-based cancer network for expertise, guidelines and even collaboration in treatment plans for patients, according to a press release issued Wednesday afternoon.

“This affiliation allows Parkview to access best practices from the experts at MD Anderson and merge them with our own high standards of care,” said Dr. Neil Sharma, the president of the Parkview Cancer Institute. “Our local physicians can work with physicians in Houston, developing a comprehensive treatment plan that is centered around the patient. This network/program combines the best of what we do locally with the expertise of a national leader.”

As a certified member, the Parkview Cancer Institute had to participate in MD Anderson’s quality improvement and best practices program.

“Parkview Cancer Institute has demonstrated its commitment to provide the highest standard of cancer care to patients by becoming a member of MD Anderson Cancer Network,” said William A. Murphy Jr., M.D., chair of the board, Physicians Network. “Through our collaborative work, we will amplify already excellent programs and further advance the standard of care throughout northern Indiana.”

Scott James, chief operating officer of the Parkview Cancer Institute, said that they are excited to see how the collaboration elevates the quality of cancer care in northeast Indiana, and, more importantly, how it will help their patients.
