Sept. 16: LaGrange County Still Faces Low Vaccination Rates

Topeka and Shipshewana, both in LaGrange County, have the lowest COVID-19 vaccination rates in the state, at 13.2 and 14 percent respectively.

 

They also have relatively low 7-day positivity rates, at just over 5 percent.

 

The largely-Amish and rural communities’ are pulling down the county’s vaccination rate which stands at 25.2 percent.

 

Ten new cases were reported in LaGrange County on Thursday, and no new deaths. The county’s overall positivity rate for the past seven days stands at 15.1 percent, the highest in the area.

 

There were two COVID-19 deaths reported in northeast Indiana on Thursday--one each in Allen and Huntington counties.

 

Nearly 400 new cases were reported, and the area’s 7-day positivity rate stands at 11.3 percent, less than the overall rate for the state, which stands at 11.9 percent.

 

The highly-contagious Delta variant makes up 97 percent of the new cases reported in the state.

 

Nearly 7,800 Hoosiers joined the ranks of the fully-vaccinated on Thursday, bringing the total percentage of the eligible population to 54.4 percent.

 

Northeast Indiana totals:

  • Adams County: 12 new cases for 4,366 total. No new deaths for 65 total. 7-day positivity rate at 7.7%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 37.7%.
  • Allen County: 188 new cases for 52,483 total. 1 new death for 747 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.5%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 55.7%.
  • DeKalb County: 21 new cases for 5,577 total. No new deaths for 91 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.9%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 42.7%.
  • Huntington County: 15 new cases for 5,878 total. 1 new death for 91 total. 7-day positivity rate at 8.2%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 47.3%.
  • Kosciusko County: 42 new cases for 11,192 total. No new deaths for 134 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.3%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 42.3%.
  • LaGrange County: 10 new cases for 3,134 total. No new deaths for 74 total. 7-day positivity rate at 15.1%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 25.2%.
  • Noble County: 25 new cases for 7,229 total. No new deaths for 100 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.1%. Eligible population fully vaccinated 41.3%.
  • Steuben County: 31 new cases for 4,833 total. No new deaths for 67 total. 7-day positivity rate at 8.7%. Eligible population fully vaccinated at 46.5%.
  • Wabash County: 21 new cases for 4,721 total. No new deaths for 92 total. 7-day positivity rate at 9.6%. Eligible population fully vaccinated at 41.7%.
  • Wells County: 18 new cases for 3,769 total. No new deaths for 83 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.1%. Eligible population fully vaccinated at 43.6%.
  • Whitley County: 13 new cases for 5,111 total. No new deaths for 51 total. 7-day positivity rate at 45.9%.
