Screenshot of Indiana Department of Health

Eight new COVID-19 deaths were reported in northeast Indiana on Tuesday, including three in Allen County.

There were also 307 new cases reported, but the 7-day positivity rate was again below 11 percent, at 10.8 percent.

Two new deaths were reported in Huntington County. Deaths were also reported  in Adams, Steuben, and Whitley counties.

LaGrange County’s vaccination rate remains stuck at 23.5 percent, where it has been for about a week.

The area has 249 residents hospitalized due to COVID, and ICU capacity dropped to 11.2 percent on Tuesday.

According to the Angola Herald Republican, the Steuben County Commissioners rejected a joint letter by the Steuben County health department and Cameron Memorial Hospital officials at Monday’s meeting.

Steuben County Commissioner Ken Shelton said in a recent meeting he found the letter’s mention of the importance of vaccination to be “intimidating” people to get the shots, according to reporting.

Steuben County’s 7-day positivity rate is at 9.5 percent, with 21 new cases of the virus and an additional death reported Tuesday.
