Smith Files For Mayoral Run

Tim Smith For Mayor

The Republican primary field for Fort Wayne’s 2019 mayoral election expanded earlier this week, as Tim Smith officially filed with the Board of Elections.

Smith is an executive at the MedPro insurance firm.

In his campaign announcement, Smith says he’s running because he “expects more out of local government. He lists his platform as building a “safer, smarter and stronger” Fort Wayne, focused on attracting higher wage jobs and negotiating “smarter deals,” while emphasizing "community-oriented policing," which he describes as "moving officers to streets instead of behind desks."

He says his ultimate goal is to ensure Fort Wayne no longer looks to other cities for “best practices,” instead making it a model for the Midwest.

Smith will face Republican at-large councilman John Crawford in the Republican primary, which will take place on May 7. The winner will likely face Democratic incumbent Tom Henry, who has stated his intent on seeking a fourth term.
