Raising A Glass To "Gurls" Who Drink Beer

As Hop River's marketing director, Lowenstein wants to empower women to find their niche in the craft beer scene.

With the craft beer business booming, Hop River Brewing Company's Mary Corinne Lowenstein and local artist Kara Doak are on a new crusade to connect and empower women who like to go out and enjoy it.

Their campaign, aptly named the Fearless Women Project, is aimed at women of all ages and interests, who are looking for a safe space to socialize, unwind and enjoy a good brew.

Kara will be gathering photos and interviews at the meetup to include in her 2nd volume of "Gurls Who Drink Beer" zine.

Hoping to establish a Fearless Women Monthly Meetup event, the first such gathering is taking the form of a panel discussion, which will take place at Hop River Brewing on January 14th.

The panel will include women that are in the industry either as brewers, bar owners, bartenders and management, ready to describe their world, and answer questions about what it takes and how they have helped change the landscape in their space and in our community.

To gain insight on their cause, WBOI's Julia Meek invited the pair into the studio to talk about its purpose, the upcoming panel discussion on the subject, and Kara's zine series, "Girls Who Drink Beer."
