Columbia City Earns Downtown Enhancement Grant

FILE

Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb announced the recipients of Indiana’s Downtown Enhancement Grants Thursday, and one Northeast Indiana community will benefit from the award.

Columbia City’s Main Street Association will be receiving more than $9,000 in funds from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

The City plans to invest the funding in transforming a vacant lot into a downtown park. The project will add benches, picnic tables, patio areas and other amenities to the lot in an effort to give Columbia City a more “vibrant” downtown.

The Main Street Association will partner with the City, the Three Birds Casual furniture business, the Community Foundation of Whitley County and Fahl Colors in the effort.

The goal of the Downtown Enhancement Grant program is to improve local quality of life, stimulate economic development and enhance employment opportunities.
