With One Week Until Budget Deadline, Council Prepares For Long Tuesday Night

Rebecca Green/WBOI News

The heads of several dozen agencies are prepared to make their final pitches to City Council Tuesday night, before a vote is taken on Fort Wayne’s 2019 fiscal year budget.

While there’s one week left until the budget’s October 31 deadline for passage, tonight marks Council’s final scheduled meeting to discuss and vote on any budget measures.

Council is set to discuss and vote on a variety of measures, including two funding packages for Electric Works, collective bargaining through 2020 with the Fort Wayne Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association and salaries for city employees.

Second District councilman Russ Jehl has already stated he will be a “no” vote on the package if neighborhood projects from 2014’s Capital Improvement Plan are not given adequate funding for completion.

Unrelated to the 2019 budget, Council is also expected to vote on the proposed annexation of the La Cabreah neighborhood into Fort Wayne.

The meeting is set to begin at 5:30 at Citizens Square, and is expected to last several hours.
