Urban Farming Gets Voucher Boost

Wikimedia Commons

If you’ve had dreams of urban farming, the Allen County Community Development Corporation wants to make it easier for you.

In partnership with the Purdue Extension-Allen County, the organization is providing vouchers for a free parcel of land to those who have completed the Extension service’s Urban Agriculture Certificate.

The Urban Agriculture Certificate program helps those interested in urban farming and community gardens with education in business planning, site assessment, production practices and community engagement, according to a press release from Allen County government.

But it can be hard to find land. The Allen County Community Development Corporation assists in selling properties that fail to sell at tax sales, with some properties available for as little as $350.

The partnership between the two organizations allows those interested in urban agriculture to clear the hurdle of land acquisition.

For more information about the Urban Agriculture Certificate, visit Purdue Extension's website. For a look at properties available through the Allen County Community Development Corporation, click http://accdc.allencounty.us/properties here.
