WBOI Presents: January News Roundup 2020

Senate Television/AP, Women Are: Fort Wayne, Bad Hombres, Eric Allix Rogers, Flickr

This week, our news team is looking back at some of the biggest stories from January. Impeachment has dominated the headlines and we’ll hear perspective from northeast Indiana’s expert on all things politics, Andy Downs, Director of the Mike Downs Center for Indiana politics. A new city council begins work, the farm bureau attempts to fill a gap in health coverage, and a podcast dedicated to Fort Wayne women begins its second season. That’s all ahead on the January News Roundup.

The impeachment trial came to an end this week and WBOI News Director Rebecca Green spoke with Andy Downs last week to unpack some of the storylines to come out of the proceedings, the statements from Senators Todd Young and Mike Braun, and what to look for from the state legislature at the halfway mark of the 2020 General Assembly session.

Last week’s episode of WBOI Presents focused on education. We’ll have an update on that and other issues that were brought up during the first month of the 2020 session in Indianapolis.

Farmers across the Midwest are facing tight profit margins and rising healthcare costs. And that means some hold off getting medical treatment or forgo health insurance altogether. Some state farm bureaus are trying to fill that gap.
