Allen County officials came together Wednesday to begin creating a plan for coronavirus. While the county has yet to see its own confirmed case, neighboring counties Noble and Adams have seen cases of the virus.
Working together, health, school and city officials are working on how best to help the community in the event of the spread of coronavirus in Allen County.
Dr. Deborah McMahan is the Health Commissioner for Allen County. She says, while it hasn’t officially been declared a pandemic, the county should be planning for it as if it could be.
“You don’t want to wait until you’re in the midst of it, and now you’re trying to figure out what you want to do," McMahan says.
Together, the group has also come up with a list of six community goals as they prepare to respond to COVID-19. The list includes sharing information in a timely manner and ensuring support to community members who find themselves under isolation or quarantine.
Noble County has recommended any meetings of 20 or more that are not absolutely necessary be suspended.
Honor Flights set for April and May have been postponed over uncertainty about the coronavirus.
