The local coronavirus counts are up in almost all northeast Indiana counties Thursday.

Allen County now has 231 positive tests for the virus, and 19 people have died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.

DeKalb County added four additional cases, bringing their total to 10. Noble County is now reporting 27 cases, Steuben County is at 14, and Whitley County has 15 cases.

More than 37 percent of Allen County’s confirmed cases of the virus are between the ages of 40 and 60, and 41 percent of the people who have tested positive for the virus are hospitalized.

The number of people tested for the virus remains low as tests are not yet widely available.

The Indiana Department of Health reserves tests for higher-risk individuals, such as patients who have been admitted to the hospital due to complications of a respiratory illness consistent with COVID 19.

Other symptomatic individuals potentially tested for the virus include health care workers, patients with underlying health conditions such as asthma, and people 65 years of age or older.

Only 51,115 Hoosiers have been tested for the virus, less than one percent of the state's population.
