Northeast Indiana ICU Beds Near Capacity, COVID Accounts For Only 17 Percent

Screenshot of Indiana Department of Health

There are only 2 percent of intensive care unit beds available in much of northeast Indiana, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

While 80 percent of the ICU capacity is taken up by non-COVID patients throughout District 3, about 17 percent is taken up by those battling the disease.

Around the state of Indiana, there are 32 percent of ICU beds available, with 14 percent in use for treatment of COVID-19.

Another death was reported in Noble County, bringing that county’s total to 29 fatalities due to the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. There are 638 cases of the virus detected in the county.

Allen County has 3,717 cases of the virus, and is now including tests that are positive antigen tests which had been considered probable positive cases. Now both the standard molecular PCR test results and the antigen tests are considered in the county’s totals.
