Indiana’s COVID-19 count inched closer to 2,000 cases per day on Thursday, with 1,960 cases reported. Wells County reported a record number of cases with 35.

In Allen County, 87 new cases were reported on Thursday, another day of near-record cases among a string of new-record case days.

On Wednesday afternoon, Allen County health officials posted on social media to urge area residents to not grow weary of the pandemic, and to keep fighting to keep hospitals from being overwhelmed.

About 13 percent of ICU beds in northeast Indiana are in use to treat COVID-19 patients, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

In partnership with the Kosciusko County Health Department and the Indiana State Department of Health, a free drive-through testing site opened at the Bowen Center in Warsaw, 2219 E. Dubois Dr. The hours for the new site are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Those using the testing site do not need a doctor's referral or health insurance, nor does one need to be a Kosciusko County resident. Technicians at the site are bilingual, according to a press release.

Kosciusko County is now up to 1,567 cases, with 22 new cases reported on Thursday. One more death was reported, bringing that total to 20.

Kosciusko County’s positivity rate is at 15.6 percent for seven days, according to the state data.
