Allen County Passes 400 COVID-19 Deaths

Screenshot of Indiana Department of Health

Allen County has lost more than 400 residents due to COVID-19.

On Wednesday, the total of those lost to the illness in Allen County stands at 416. There were 22 additional deaths added to the tally, some of them dating back a few weeks due to a lag in reporting.

There were 350 new positive cases diagnosed in Allen County, bringing that total to 24,777, according to the Allen County Department of Health.

In northeast Indiana, ICU capacity was back down to about 11 percent remaining. The majority of those occupying intensive care beds are not COVID-19 patients. Roughly 60 percent of those in the ICU in the area are suffering from another illness or injury.

The totals illustrate state health officials’ urging to slow the spread of COVID-19 so that the hospital capacity remains to treat all who need care.

Indiana’s ICU capacity statewide looks much the same as northeast Indiana: about 11 percent remaining, with about 49 percent occupied by non-COVID patients, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.
