Death Numbers Up During Week, ICU Capacity Improves By Friday

Northeast Indiana ICU capacity remains just under 15 percent Friday, an improvement of where the area was in the middle of the week, just above 11 percent.

Hospitalizations were down in the area as well, below 300 for the first time in over a month, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

However, there were an additional 11 deaths reported in the area, including four in Allen County and five deaths in DeKalb County.

Allen County reported 185 new cases of COVID-19 Friday from Thursday, according to the Allen County Department of Health.

Wells County has the lowest 7-day positivity rate at 9.9 percent, still nearly double the “safe level” for community spread as determined by the World Health Organization.

 

Northeast Indiana counties totals for Friday, Dec. 18:

  • Adams County: 28 new cases for 2,390 total. No new deaths for 28 total. 7-day positivity rate at 10.8%.
  • Allen County: 185 County: 185 new cases for 25,243 total. Four new deaths for 428 total. 7-day positivity rate at 14.8%.
  • DeKalb County: 18 new cases for 2,700 total. Five new deaths for 54 total. 7-day positivity rate at 15.6%.
  • Huntington County: 16 new cases for 2,069 total. Two new deaths for 21 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.9%.
  • Kosciusko County: 22 new cases for 6,205 total. No new deaths for 63 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.2%.
  • LaGrange County: 12 new cases for 1,886 total. No new deaths for 42 total. 7-day positivity rate at 20.5%.
  • Noble County: 44 new cases for 3,590 total. No new deaths for 52 total. 7-day positivity rate at 10.4%.
  • Steuben County: 36 new cases for 2,223 total. No new deaths for 16 total. 7-day positivity rate at 16.6%.
  • Wabash County: 14 new cases for 2,399 total. No new deaths for 36 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.5%.
  • Wells County: 24 new cases for 1,765 total. No new deaths for 43 total. 7-day positivity rate at 9.9%.
  • Whitley County: 23 new cases for 2,171 total. No new deaths for 17 total. 7-day positivity rate at 19.9%.
