COVID-19 Hospitalizations Locally Are Down

An example of the rising demand for COVID-19 testing is the drive-through site in Kosciusko County.

The site opened in October, at the beginning of the autumn surge that has caused 64 deaths in the county. Since its opening, the site has processed on average 194 tests per day, according to a press release from the Bowen Center, which operates the site on behalf of the Indiana State Department of Health.

 

Kosciusko County has seen a total of 6,399 cases of the illness, an addition of 35 on Monday from Sunday.

 

Elsewhere in northeast Indiana, there have been about 345 new cases reported Monday, and nine new deaths, according to state and local statistics. 

 

Hospitalizations and ICU usage due to COVID-19 were down on Monday, with about 20 percent of ICU capacity remaining, and 284 northeast Indiana residents are hospitalized with the Coronavirus, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

 

Northeast Indiana's COVID-19 totals for Dec. 21:

  • Adams County: 17 new cases for 2,462 total. No new deaths for 30 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.6%.
  • Allen County: 145 new cases for 25,936 total. No new deaths for 431 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.6%.
  • DeKalb County: 19 new cases* for 2,795 total. Three new deaths for 57 total. 7-day positivity rate at 16.9%.
  • Huntington County: 17 new cases for 2,173 total. Two new deaths for 27 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.5%.
  • Kosciusko County: 35 new cases for 6,399 total. No new deaths for 64 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.6%.
  • LaGrange County: six new cases for 1,919 total. No new deaths for 44 total. 7-day positivity rate at 18.9%.
  • Noble County: 26 new cases for 3,747 total. No new deaths for 53 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.0%.
  • Steuben County: 39 new cases for 2,347 total. No new deaths for 18 total. 7-day positivity rate at 17.0%.
  • Wabash County: 16 new cases for 2,457 total. No new deaths for 37 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.7%.
  • Wells County: seven new cases for 1,805 total. One new death for 45 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.4%.
  • Whitley County: 11 new cases for 2,236 tota. No new deaths for 17 total. 7-day positivity rate at 18.5%.

*DeKalb County's totals reflect a mix of both state and local health departments, which frequently diverge due to delays in reporting.
