COVID-19 Hospitalization Rates Bump Up Slightly

Twenty-two deaths were reported in Allen County Tuesday, a reflection of a lag in reporting over the past week, meaning 453 Allen County residents have died from COVID-19.

There were 188 new positive tests reported Tuesday, according to the Allen County Department of Health.

Over the past four days in northeast Indiana, roughly 17 percent of those hospitalized were due to COVID-19. Around 16 percent of those making a trip to an emergency room were due to COVID.

These statistics are part of Tuesday’s data presentation on the state’s COVID-19 data dashboard via the Regenstrief Institute. [Ree-gen-streef]

Indiana’s statistics have improved over the past week, though on Tuesday hospitalizations ticked up slightly. 

Those between the ages of 20 to 29 and 50 to 59 make up 16 percent of those infected in northeast Indiana, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

About 22 percent of ICU bed capacity in the region remains, with 25 percent occupied by COVID-19 patients.

 

Northeast Indiana totals for Dec. 22:

  • Adams County: 14 new cases for 2,476 total. No new deaths for 32 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.8%.
  • Allen County: 188 new cases for 26,124 total. 22 new deaths for 453 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.7%.
  • DeKalb County: 22 new cases for 2,817 total. No new deaths for 57 total. 7-day positivity rate at 17.0%.
  • Huntington County: 38 new deaths for 2,211 total. No new deaths for 27 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.0%.
  • Kosciusko County: 21 new deaths for 6,420 total. Two new deaths for 66 total. 7-day positivity rate at 14.0%.
  • LaGrange County: 10 new cases for 1,940 total. No new deaths for 44 total. 7-day positivity rate at 18.1%.
  • Noble County: 23 new cases for 3,760 total. No new deaths for 53 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.7%.
  • Steuben County: 20 new cases for 2,370 total. One new death for 19 total. 7-day positivity rate at 18.1%.
  • Wabash County: 9 new cases for 2,466 total. One new death for 38 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.8%.
  • Wells County: 11 new cases for 1,815 total. No new deaths for 45 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.5%.
  • Whitley County: 20 new cases for 2,256 total No new deaths for 17 total. 7-day positivity rate at 16.7%.
