Deaths Low On Dec. 23, Hospitalizations Again Creeping Up

 While there were few COVID-19 deaths reported Wednesday in northeast Indiana, the area’s ICU capacity tightened slightly, dropping from about 22 percent of beds available Tuesday, to 16.8 percent on Wednesday. 

Hospitalizations were also up again on Wednesday, with 295 in the area hospitalized with the illness, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

Only two deaths were reported in northeast Indiana, one each in Huntington and Wabash counties.

About half of northeast Indiana is still in the red zone for COVID-19 advisory level: Steuben, LaGrange, DeKalb, Allen and Whitley counties. This score includes cases per 100,000 residents and 7-day positivity rate.

The advisory level color indicates what gathering restrictions the county must follow per Gov. Eric Holcomb’s executive orders.

 

  • Adams County: 20 new cases for 2,496 total. No new deaths for 30 total. 7-day positivity rate at 12.0%.
  • Allen County: 242 new cases for 26,366 total. No new deaths for 453 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.5%.
  • DeKalb County: 30 new cases for 2,847 total. No new deaths for 57 total. 7-day positivity rate at 15.8%.
  • Huntington County: 40 new cases for 2,248 total. One new death for 28 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.1%.
  • Kosciusko County: 67 new cases for 6,485 total. No new deaths for 66 total. 7-day positivity rate for 15.6%.
  • LaGrange County: 8 new cases for 1,948 total. No new deaths for 44 total. 7-day positivity rate for 19.3%.
  • Noble County: 24 new cases for 3,784 total. No new deaths for 53 total. 7-day positivity rate at 14.3%.
  • Steuben County: 44 new cases for 2,414 total. No new deaths for 19 total. 7-day positivity rate at 18.8%.
  • Wabash County: 15 new cases for 2,480 total. One new death for 39 total. 7-day positivity rate at 11.3%.
  • Wells County: 18 new cases for 1,833 total. No new death for 45 total. 7-day positivity rate at 13.1%.
  • Whitley County: 24 new cases for 2,280 total. No new deaths for 17 total. 7-day positivity rate at 17.0%.
