Parkview Health announced the launch of a graduate medical education program to attract and retain more physicians in Northeast Indiana.

The program, which is also known as a residency, is planned for launch in 2022, with applications being accepted this September.

The program is a clinical training program for doctors who have graduated from medical school and want to receive further specialized training. Med school graduates can spend three to seven years receiving hands-on instruction during their residency.

The Indiana Graduate Medical Education Board estimates that Indiana will need an additional 817 primary care physicians by 2030 and nearly 70 percent of doctors stay in the area of their residency once it’s complete.

Renovation is already underway to create offices, classrooms, procedure rooms and clinic space at Parkview Hospital Randallia.
